Turn a complex system problem into a clear, lower-risk decision
I help engineering and product teams at SaaS and AI companies when delivery slows, costs
rise, or a critical technical transition is at risk.
I trace the problem across the system, connect technical options to business consequences,
and recommend the smallest useful change. Where useful, I implement it with the team.
Email me about the problem
Selected outcomes
- Edge-compute invocations reduced by 80%. Re-architected an image-processing
pipeline after identifying configuration-driven Cloudflare billing overages.
- Migrated data reduced by more than 50%. Audited the production database before
a large MongoDB migration, reducing the migration scope and making the cutover safer.
- Kubernetes footprint reduced by 75%. Modernized delivery through GitHub Actions
and ArgoCD.
- Developer onboarding reduced from weeks to hours. Rebuilt development and delivery
foundations with deterministic containers and full payment-webhook parity.

When to bring me in
A useful starting point is one important problem that the team cannot resolve within one
part of the system.
- An older platform is slowing delivery, but a full rewrite would create more risk.
- An AI prototype needs a reliable path into production.
-
Cloud, storage, edge or inference costs are rising without a clear explanation of what is
driving them.
-
A reliability problem involves the application, data, infrastructure and cloud provider.
-
A migration or integration with an existing system is stalled, unclear or too risky to
improvise.
- Critical system knowledge is concentrated in too few people.
-
Diagnose and decide
I investigate one important system problem using the relevant people, architecture,
code, production evidence and business constraints. The aim is to explain what is
happening and why.
You receive the available options, a recommendation and a prioritised action plan.
Risks, trade-offs and what remains unknown are made explicit.
-
Implement one bounded change
If the diagnostic identifies a bounded, valuable change, I can implement it with the
team. The work is tied to one agreed outcome, not the general engineering backlog.
The work includes measurement, documentation, review and handover so the team can
operate and extend the change.
-
Stay involved for high-stakes decisions
After a diagnostic or bounded implementation has established the necessary context, I
can provide ongoing, part-time senior technical support for architecture decisions,
technical roadmaps, difficult incidents, vendor choices and selected hands-on
investigation.
This does not include permanent on-call responsibility, people management or general
coding capacity.
Working fit
Good fit
- The problem has an important effect on the business or its operation.
-
The person responsible for the decision participates and the relevant information is
available.
- The team is open to incremental change and can make time for handover.
- Success can be seen in a decision made, a measured improvement or a risk removed.
Not a fit: general coding capacity, a pre-decided broad rewrite, permanent on-call
ownership or people management, or generic AI training without a system or product outcome.
Email me with what changed, what is blocked, and why it matters now. I will tell you whether
I can help and what the most useful next step would be.
